Dreamworkers, Inc. was
founded in Dallas, Georgia during 1997. A small group of dog owners wished to share
their love for their dogs through Animal Assisted Therapy and Animal Assisted
Activities. The group began with
making visits to Paulding WellStar Nursing Facility in Dallas, Georgia. The organization has now grown to include teams
making regular nursing facility visits in Dallas, Douglasville, and Rome, Ga.
They also visit schools, day care centers,
public libraries, and youth organizations. There are also teams outside the Cobb,
Paulding, and Douglas County area that have been certified through
Dreamworkers, Inc. and make visits at facilities in their communities. |

In addition to providing training
and certification for therapy animals, Dreamworkers, Inc. also assists in acquiring
and preparing puppies for formal training as service dogs. Disabled individuals interested in training
their own service dogs are also given assistance. Many members of Dreamworkers, Inc. help with
local animal rescue organizations. Dreamworkers, Inc. also donates a portion of
money acquired during fundraisers to local animal shelters. Low-cost obedience classes are offered to
the community by the organization. Members use their dogs as goodwill
ambassadors and educational tools in their communities by promoting
responsible pet ownership and awareness through canine education activities.

Throughout the year, Dreamworkers,
Inc. seeks to bring help and cheer to residents of the nursing facilities that
they visit. Each Christmas, the
organization provides holiday gift bags and refreshments to residents at the
nursing facilities. Members collect
items and donations to fill the bags. "Christmas in July" bags are also
distributed during the last week of July. Members have been instrumental in helping to
acquire computers and wheelchairs for some residents that are in need of
these items. The organization's volunteer
hours for its two largest facilities averages one thousand hours per
facility. |
