This page is dedicated to our member's DRL dogs that have moved on to the Rainbow Bridge. Our own
dogs often took a back seat and patiently waited for us to make time for them while we were trying to
give other Rescue Dogs a second chance at life.
We also honor the rescue Dobes that wrapped their paws around our hearts and allowed us to love them,
shared our lives and await us at the Rainbow Bridge.
Updated April 17, 2003:
Sophie DRL #1891
Sophie had Cardiomyopathy. She and her sister Sadie, #1892 came in to rescue in November 1998. They were initially separated but December 2, 2000
they were once again reunited. They romped and played as though they had never had the 2 years of separation. The past 2-1/2 years have been the happiest for not only Sophie,
but for Roberta as well.
May 1997 - March 8, 2003
Williston DRL #1848
Williston (came in to rescue on 6/18/95) adopted by Audrey R. Philippe on 3/31/96 crossed over the bridge on 2/8/03.
Turner DRL #1841
Turner was adopted August 17, 1995 at the age of approximately 4 years old. She has been diagnosed with inoperable colon cancer. She
will be greatly missed by Tim and Mary.
Rambo (Bo) DRL #1901
He crossed over the bridge today, 11/11/02. He was a very lucky boy to
have Scott Hemingway as his foster dad and friend. His last months here have been a blessing to him and Scott.
A letter from Bo...
The Best Year of My Life
Some of you folks never knew me. A mean guy called me Rambo. I lived in Pompano and this guy treated me like trash.
This man tied a rope around my neck and tied me to a tree in the hot Florida sun. He left me with no food or water.
I ate rocks and sticks. I broke all my front teeth from this and lost a piece of my tongue too. I tried very hard to
get loose, but all I did was strangle myself and cause an eye infection.
One day someone finally heard me crying out for help. The police were called. They called the wonderful people at Doberman
Rescue League. A nice lady showed up. I'll call her Aunt Maggie. She took me away from the hell I was in. She was a sweet
smelling lady that was the best thing that ever happened to me. Aunt Maggie talked so nice to me. That made me feel better
even though everything still hurt.
The first place Aunt Maggie took me was to the doctor's office. In comes the doc poking and sticking me, it hurt, but it made
me feel better. He operated on my eye too, than I took medicine for my eyes everyday. I was doing better, so they moved me to a
smaller vet's office where they took personal care of me. Lots of food and love from the staff there. I tried moving into one
of the foster homes that DRL had, but they had a cat and I only wanted to see if that cat was tasty. So I moved on to another home.
I did better there with the dog they had, but not great. My foster parents kept us in separate rooms. They took me to obedience class
and the trainers worked with me. I liked the lady trainers; they talked nice to me and smelled sweet. I did well in class because I
am so smart, but nobody knew that but me.
Aunt Maggie came and got me one day. She took me to a meeting that night. It was a stormy night, lots of rain and thunder. The meeting was
half over and in walks this guy. He looks like a drown rat. He sat in the back holding one of the other Dobies that was there. This guy was
cleaning her eyes out and wiping it on his pants. Wow, what a GUY!! I need him I thought. The night was coming to an end and he came up to
see me. He said I was unique. He never saw a full black faced Dobie. I had him under my spell, but he didn't know it yet. He is MY NEW DAD.
He signed some paperwork and left in the rain.
A few weeks later I heard my new Dad rescued a female Dobie from Alabama. Her name is Kaiserina. I thought I was forgotten, but I wasn't. He
just wanted me to have a little sister. Dad came down to visit me three times in less than a week. The third time Dad gave me a bath and I went
HOME!! The rest is history. Lots of LOVE, a sister to play with, toys and the best food and treats too. I told YOU He Is MY DAD!!!!
Dad took me to all different kinds of places, like the pet stores, the Dog Park, the beach and long walks. We even went to The Keys several times.
I met my cousins there, two dachshunds, Miss Lexxus and Beamer. They were sister and brother. I went swimming there too when dad turned his back.
I could go on forever about my Dad and the love he gave to me, but only one more thing he hated my name Rambo. So, since I reminded him of a southern
gentleman with no teeth, I am Mr. Bojangles, a/k/a Bobo.
The last thing I will remember about my Dad is the love he gave me and everybody around him. My last day Nov. 11, 2002 was very, very hard for my Dad.
He knew I was in lots of pain, so he came and we went outside under the native trees. I laid in his lap and I went to sleep forever. That's the last thing
I will remember about him. His love for me, his friends, family, nature and animals.
Love,
Bobo
Josh DRL #1707
Josh was 1-1/2 years old when he came in and was adopted in October of 1990. He would have been about 14+ years old.
What a wonderful and lucky Rescue Kid to have owned two wonderful people like Tim and Mary!
Cherokee DRL #1790

first place and for the years of enjoyment we received from him.
Ms Lee DRL #1773
aka Leila, Adopted on 9/11/92 - 2/23/02 by Walt and Dolores Russell.
Ms. Lee was the 12th dog that owned the Russell's. Her brother, #1836 Beau and his family will miss her greatly. She was after all the "bell"
of the house! She was 1-1/2 years old when she adopted the Russell family. Our thanks to Walt and Dolores Russell and Clifford Addison of
Addison Animal Hospital in Lake City, Florida for the special care for Ms. Lee on her passage over the rainbow bridge.
Dustin DRL #1804
He came into Rescue on 10/11/93, after being found running by the Opa-Locka Airport. He was caught after

was given a lot of love by his foster families. He passed away 5/30/2000
Duffy DRL #1771
He was dumped at a golf course in 1992. He weighed 70 lbs. and was covered with fleas and
had internal parasites. He developed severe hip displagia and was put to sleep 3/13/00.

She was found as a stray and discovered tied to a tree with an electric cord. Adopted 10/1/92 and lived with
2 greyhounds until her death in 1999.
Bandit DRL #1688
Bandit was found wandering in Hollywood. He became a devoted best friend. He lost his
left rear leg to osteosarcoma; a year later a reoccurrence eventually led to euthanasia in Dec. 1998.
Delilah DRL #1513
She was adopted at 5 months of age in 1985 and died Nov.17, 1998. She had been given
up by her owners because she was too big. She was a very special girl.
Rusty DRL #1803
He was 7 years old when he came to us on Sept. 4, 1993. He weighed 43 lbs and had
a hole in his side from a sharp object, and was terrified of men and flashlights. He died in Sept. 1998,
weighing 95 lbs. He had become a smiler and had overcome many of his fears.
Zeus DRL #1597
Was turned in at 6-8 months of age and was named Bronco Billy by his foster home because when he became
excited he would rear up and down on his hind legs. One of our puppies, graduated from Obedience School 11/87, died 1997.
Deke DRL #1672
and his friend Adria. Deke came in when 5 months old and became a sweet, loving dog. He died
of 'dancing dobes disease' (Wobblers) in 1997.
Wally DRL #1642
He was 3 yrs old and found near a hospital with a puppy he was protecting. He was found to be heartworm
positive. He died of cardiomyopathy. He was a true companion, guarded the house and would not let strangers come too
close to anyone in the house; a gentle loving friend, who died Nov. 29, 1995 at 11 yrs of age.
Athena DRL #1713
Athena came in at about 6 yrs of age and lived as a devoted companion until age 13.
Tai DRL #1576
Brought to Rescue as a puppy at 8 weeks of age with 4 littermates in a closed trunk, infested with ticks
and internal parasites in 1987, died March 1992 of Wobblers. He was a sweet loving dog and a natural protector of home
and owner.
Travis DRL#1559
Came to Rescue at 3 yrs. of age in 1986 having been abused by owner's husband. He was very afraid
of people and leashes and took many months to calm his fears. He died of cardiomyopathy 6/26/92. He was very gentle
and naturally guarded all those he cared for. He is truly missed.
Nemesis DRL #318
A first foster dog that never left and was adopted 8/8/78 , titled with a C.D. and C.D.X. in 1981.
She lived in a yard for the first year of her life and owner didn't have time for her and her brother also out of
boredom dug holes. A lady, obedient and really classy at dog shows, died March 1991.

Tara DRL #1634
Tara came in in 1989 after being hit by a car or a baseball bat. She was at first a loner and did not
want human contact. She chewed anything and everything she could get to at first, with many corrections and love, she came around and was very protective of her property,
humans and other canine and feline friends that lived with her. She lived to be 14 years old and a true companion. She overcame her fears and became one of Rescue's first
therapy dogs. She was a gentle, sweet dog, but she never forgot that she was Doberman... if she felt she that she needed to protect her home or human family, she did not shy
away from that "responsibility" she felt she had. She was my friend, companion, and my world... she will be truly missed for her beauty, gentleness and loving ways... Maggie.

Meisha DRL #1729
Owner was moving and couldn't take her. She was born with an undetected too small liver and
only lived 4/1/2 years. They will all leave pawprints in your heart that will never be forgotten.
Darius #1511
Owners didn't want to tape ears, was too much trouble. Strange, after paying so much to have
them clipped, then not to want to do the aftercare. It took 18 months to get them to stand, but when they did
he was gorgeous. Darius, only claim to fame was his C.G.C. Title (Canine Good Citizen Title), but a larger than
life dobe you could never find. Darius left us at 12 1/2 years.
Brandy's Stormy Past #231
Found with a shattered hip and leg; he was considered unadoptable as leg was
so shattered. The vets always thought he was possibly beaten with a baseball bat. It was put back together
with screws, plates and wire. He was 8 yrs old when he died in 1985.
Tasha DRL#228
Was turned in by an owner who tried to aggression train her but she was too sweet. Adopted at 3 1/2
yrs old. She was adopted 1/11/78 and died in March of 1985 of cancer. She had received an obedience title of C.D.
(Companion Dog) in 12/2/79.
Luca and Ms. Hilly
Family who will never be forgotten.
